As a publisher for women’s fashion magazines,Conde Nast has always spared no effort in promoting women consumption. It has tried,with its magazine content,to guide women effectively to consume fashion with a taste. When women buy fashion magazines,the behavior itself is a consumption of taste in cultural term.
To better understand Chinese women’s consumption status and better serve them,Conde Nast,together with China National Research Association,carried out a China Fashion Index survey in eight Chinese cities in August 2006.
The survey has discovered that in Chinese public eyes,the definition of fashion concentrates on the following:in conformity with the times,having personal characteristics and high taste. Words that used to describe fashion include:having characteristics,high taste and inner beauty,graceful and so on. About 50.9 per cent interviewees consider women having taste and graceful as women of fashion.
Women pay attention to fashions,which include dress,accessories,cosmetics,hairstyle,body beauty,leisure,health,home and travel.
Among the interviewees,75.5 per cent have multi-function mobile phones,68.3 per cent have digital cameras,65.8 per cent have high quality cosmetics and 61.7 per cent have brand name dress costumes.
Among them 55.2 per cent spent less than 9 per cent of their total family income on fashion consumables last year. Women’s average annual fashion consumption is 15838 yuan,with 7288 yuan on dress,3213 yuan on jewelry and 2256 yuan on cosmetics.
Women are main consumers of fashion products and they spend far more than men on fashion.
Last year,city consumers on average spent 7288 yuan on fashion clothes,with Shanghai consumers spent most and Xi’an residents spent least. Hangzhou consumers spend most on cosmetics;Wuhan people spent least. What’s more,Hangzhou consumers also spent most on perfume and Shenyang residents spent least. Shanghai consumers spent most on jewelry;Xi’an residents spent least. Beijing consumers spent most on watches;Wuhan residents spent least. On the whole,Beijing consumers spent most on the above items and Xi’an consumers spent least.
For top brands,they must be of excellent workmanship,high quality and with perfect details.
