As the result of increasing urbanization and drastic rising of urban population in China，cities in China are bound to shoulder a greater responsibility for maintaining economic sustainability and social cohesion.The urban disease epidemic across China，no matter in mega-city metropolis or county-level cities are phenomenal.This article attempts to discuss livability as a civil concept and its relationship with current Chinese environmental challenges，makes preliminary analysis of the Chinese livability indicator indexes，and recommends a greater involvement of the Chinese environmental NGOs as a new approach to address the ecological foot prints of Chinese economy，and social cohesion and inclusiveness of its development.
