This article introduces the progress made by China in the development of the rule of law in 2009 in the fields of legislation，judicial reform，administrative law，criminal law，anti-corruption law，civil，commercial and economic laws，media law，environmental protection law，social law，and the laws of Hong Kong，Macao and Taiwan，summarizes the main characteristics of and existing problems in this process，which is aimed at safeguarding people’s livelihood and maintaining stability，and forecasts the development of the rule of law in China in the year of 2010.
