According to the World Luxury Association,Chinese consumers have lavished a total of 9.4 billion USD on luxury goods between January and December 2009. China surpassed the United States to come in second behind Japan in the consumption of luxury goods and accounted for 27.5% of the global share. It is expected that luxury sales in China will reach 14.6 billion USD in the next 5 years. This chapter analyzes the luxury market in China in 2009 and uses the movements of luxury apparel players in China as examples to illustrate the competitive landscape of the luxury brands in China.
