In 2010，within a short period less tan two months extending from March 23 to May 12，six bloodshedding events killing a total of 16 children and injuring a total of 69 children occurred consecutively in schools located in Nanping county，Fujian province，Hepu county in Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region，Leizhou in Guangdong，Taixing in Jiangsu，Weifang in Shandong，and Nanzheng in Shaanxi. When school gates become defenseless，and safety in school yards is seriously endangered，the safety of students has become an extremely worrisome and heart-tormenting issue of the public at large. “How are we going to protect you，our children？” has become a focal question which the entire society is seeking an answer. This article first gives a review of the current situation of school yard safety in order to find its underlying causes and reflect on the loopholes existing in the safety of school yards，and put forth our opinions and suggestions concerning the construction of an effective school yard safety network.
