To a great degree, the human resource crisis happening in public hospitals in Hong Kong is caused by unbalanced resources distribution between the public and private sectors, due to which public hospitals are overloaded.Meanwhile, the interest demands of the medical staff working in public hospitals have been ignored. As a result, the problem of brain drain is getting worse.Under such circumstances, public health will eventually be affected.A lesson can be learned from Hong Kong's experience, which will be useful to the healthcare reform in Mainland China.During the reform process, interests of different parties must be balanced.Overlooking or damaging the interests of the healthcare services providers-that is,hospitals and their healthcare staff-will badly affect the development of public healthcare and the establishment of harmonious relationship between doctors and patients.
