This thesis purports to answer three questions: 1st, what kind of country is Kazakhstan? 2nd, what are the developments of Kazakhstan in politics, economy and foreign diplomacy in 2012? 3rd, what kind of views and thoughts the officials and scholars of Kazakhstan hold toward some specific issues faced by SCO? It is pointed out in the thesis that Kazakhstan is a major power in the Central Asian region that has gained its independence relatively newly, has vast land and relatively sparse population, is blessed by rich energy and natural resources, and has a rapidly developing national economy. This country at present is politically stable, whose economy is growing steadily, and is diplomatically quite active. Kazakhstan is an active and pragmatic member of SCO, and the views of its officials and scholars have an important value of reference to the development of this organization.
