Latin America and the Caribbean have great resources endowments of renewable energy. Although the development and utilization of renewable energy have been increasingly diversified and made great progress these years, a series of challenges remain, including the small amount exploitation of renewable energy, incoordination between the energy and environmental policies, insufficient investment in research and development, inadequate investment and financing on projects, and the immaturity of the regional market. The development of renewable energy is closely related to the sustainable development of energy, environment and economy, which would affect the region's energy security and sustainable development in the long term. Some sub-regional organizations and countries in this region have implemented positive clean energy strategies and policies, as a result, the prospects of renewable energy could be optimistic despite great challenges.
