In spite of slower economic growth in 2012, Latin American countries have made some progress in social development as a result of effectual social policies implemented in the past years. In 2012, unemployment rate was the lowest in history, social wage rose, while poverty rate was further reduced and the procyclicality of social public expenditure became weaker in most Latin American countries. However, some traditional social problems, such as public insecurity and corruption, are difficult to be reversed fundamentally. In addition, some new social conflicts have emerged with the economic and social transformation.
