Enrique Pena Nieto was elected as president of Mexico in 2012, which marked the comeback of the Institutional Revolutionary Party. The new regime and old one achieved a smooth transition. The reforms in labor, education and anti-corruption made some progress. The social movement against Nieto's election swept throughout the country. The left-wing political parties made significant changes. Government took it as an economic focus to protect its economy from the impact of external adverse factors and stimulate economic growth. The growth speed slowed down since the third quarter while the growth rate for the whole year reached 3.8% in 2012. The public security has improved a little, but anti-drug warfare still faced serious challenges. The Calderón government tried to focus on Latin America and deepen economic and trade ties with Asia-Pacific countries while the Nieto Government will swift the basis of cooperation with the United States to pay more attention to Latin America.
