In 2012, the popularity of President José Mujica has been dropping and the differences within the Broad Front expanded gradually. But the Broad Front's ruling status was still relatively strong. The economy developed steadily and the economic growth depended largely on extra-regional export and domestic demand. Uruguay enjoyed its upgrade of sovereign rating while the inflation remained high. The Government's social policy is noticeable. The legality of abortion was passed; public security became a hot issue and the legalization of marijuana caused dispute. Trade disputes and channel dredging resulted in further tensions with Argentina.
