In 2012, Honduran politics was stable. All the parties, including the newly-found left-wing party led by the former President Zelaya, were focusing on the coming presidential election in 2013. The economy remained stable and the annual growth was around 3.5%. The main obstacle to sustainable development in Honduras is violence, which affects almost every stratum of society.
