The first decade of the 20th century was the golden decade for China's development, while the United States encountered a number of difficulties both at home and in the world. Consequently, the gap in the national strength between the two countries was narrowed, and a feeling of being caught up by China began to spread among the American public. The Obama administration maintained that the balance of power was broken in East Asia, and advocated a new strategy, shifting its gravity to the Asia Pacific. The new US strategy has added some complexities to the security situation in the region. China-US relationship therefore has got to a new juncture. The Chinese leaders have put forward a new notion of building a new type of great power relationship between China and the United States in this context, and received a warm response from the US side. The article elaborates the possibility of that kind of relationship in three aspects: the nature of our times,China's and the US perspectives. To forge a new type of great power relationship requires the both countries to make combined efforts in the following decades and pursue unremitting exploration. The road ahead may be tortuous, but the outcome will be bright.
