As a new push to deepen the process of Asian regionalism it has attracted a degree of scrutiny from commentators from home and abroad. This paper reviews the historical background of Rudd’s initiative, motivations behind this grand version of APC,and the key ideas of APC. It examines the arguments for and against APC,the different alternatives to APC,and a cultural criticism of his regional architecture. It also discusses the mixed reactions from Asia and power politics behind APC.
