In 2010，in the “National Township System Planning” compiled by Ministry of Housing and Urban-Rural Development of the PRC，Beijing，Shanghai，Tianjin，Guangzhou and Chongqing were named as Five National Central City. For some indicators of economic development in Chongqing lagged behind the other four cities，this paper selected Beijing，Tianjin and Shanghai to compare with Guangzhou，and presented the Guangzhou’s current development status and problems from the perspectives of overall economic competitiveness，urban economic development features，the main problems in Guangzhou constructing national central city and its directions to work for. In the end，this paper proposes constructive suggestions on Guangzhou constructing the central city of the PRD and the nation.
