In 2007 all the Central American countries except Guatemala,where bloody violence accompanied presidential election,maintained political stability.They were also able to achieve macro-economic balance.In the social area,rising crimes forced the governments of the sub-region to take actions to improve public security.In the diplomatic front,all the countries except Nicaragua could keep good relations with the United States.Another noteworthy development was the diplomatic ties established between Costa Rica and China in June 2007.
