在单元主义教育政策下,马来西亚华文教育的生存面临严峻的考验。为捍卫华校的存在与发展,华人社会一方面提高对华校存在意义的认识,统一思想,另一方面则采取有力措施抗衡一切不利于华文教育的政策。2012年,董总在五个地区主办了5场群众请愿大会,要求政府公平合理对待各民族源流学校,提出反对不利于各族母语教育的制度、妨碍民族团结与和谐社会的构建、贯彻单元主义教育政策的《2013~2025年教育发展大蓝图初步报告》,并促请政府顺应世界发展趋势、全球多元的格局以及马来西亚多元社会的国情,建立一个为全国人民所接受的国家教育体系,满足各族人民的需求和促进各族的文化、社会、经济及政治发展,在尊重国语的同时,也维护及扶持各族语文和文化的发展。本文主要论述了马来西亚华文教育的现况,目前从小学至大专院校所面临的问题,以及应对策略。
<<Under the government’s unilingual education policy,the survival of Chinese education is facing severe challenge in this country.To defend the existence and further development of Chinese schools,the Chinese community needs to reinforce its understanding of the significance of the survival of Chinese schools while also taking effective measures to counter policies that are unfavourable to the development of Chinese schools.In 2012,United Chinese School Committees’ Association of Malaysia(Dong Zong)organised a total of five public rallies at five different locations across the country to demand reasonable and equal treatment on the part of the government for schools of all language streams while voicing our objection to the Preliminary Report of the Malaysia Education Blueprint 2013-2025,which is seen as detrimental to the further development of mother tongue education,national unity as well as the establishment of a harmonious society.In addition,the government was also urged to construct a national education system acceptable to all Malaysians in line with the global development trends as well as the country’s multicultural reality to meet the requirements and needs of all Malaysians irrespective of race while promoting cultural,socioeconomic and political development of all ethnic groups.While giving due respect to Bahasa Malaysia as the country’s national language,this will also help preserve and support the development of the languages and cultures of all ethnic groups in this country.This article provides a brief account of the current state and future prospects of Chinese education in Malaysia as well as problems encountered by schools from primary to tertiary levels,and strategies to tackle the same.
