Under the government’s unilingual education policy，the survival of Chinese education is facing severe challenge in this country.To defend the existence and further development of Chinese schools，the Chinese community needs to reinforce its understanding of the significance of the survival of Chinese schools while also taking effective measures to counter policies that are unfavourable to the development of Chinese schools.In 2012，United Chinese School Committees’ Association of Malaysia（Dong Zong）organised a total of five public rallies at five different locations across the country to demand reasonable and equal treatment on the part of the government for schools of all language streams while voicing our objection to the Preliminary Report of the Malaysia Education Blueprint 2013-2025，which is seen as detrimental to the further development of mother tongue education，national unity as well as the establishment of a harmonious society.In addition，the government was also urged to construct a national education system acceptable to all Malaysians in line with the global development trends as well as the country’s multicultural reality to meet the requirements and needs of all Malaysians irrespective of race while promoting cultural，socioeconomic and political development of all ethnic groups.While giving due respect to Bahasa Malaysia as the country’s national language，this will also help preserve and support the development of the languages and cultures of all ethnic groups in this country.This article provides a brief account of the current state and future prospects of Chinese education in Malaysia as well as problems encountered by schools from primary to tertiary levels，and strategies to tackle the same.
