Through collecting and analyzing the statistics of the history and development of media industries in developed countries like the United States and Japan, this study summarizes the stages and characteristics of media development in these countries, and further reveals the future trend of international media: namely, the trend of the traditional media and the new media. On this basis, some countermeasures and suggestions are provided for the strategic restructuring of China’s media against the backdrop of the internet and the new media. Such restructurings, for instance, include the change from monopoly to opening in terms of media resources, the change from physical carrier to software in terms of the medium, the change from simple demographics to the nature of potential audience in terms of media market segmentation standards, and the change from professional news gathering and editing to big data mining in terms of media business.
