Since the end of 1980s’，with the “third wave” of democratization and the “revolution of mass organization”all over the world，the sector of non-governmental organization has also mushroomed in Africa. Nowadays，African non-governmental organizations are working in many fields in African society，such as relief，development，environmental protection，health，education，democracy and human rights protecting. This paper focused on the activities and impacts of African non-governmental organizations in the above-mentioned fields. At the same time，the article also explored the evolution of the relationship between the African governments and non-governmental organizations. In the end，the author discussed NGO-legislation in African countries and changes in legal status of African non-governmental organizations.
