In 2011, China and ROK relations were taking a gradual turn for the better: frequent high'level officials exchanges and steady bilateral military exchanges. Further, the two countries have achieved impressive performance in economic, trade and culture fields. However, some factors have impeded the further development of relations between China and ROK. ROK will hold parliamentary and presidential elections in 2012, so it will need stable domestic and surrounding environment. The United State, which will hold presidential election in 2012, and DPRK, which is in the crucial period of power transfer, will also need a stable international environment. All these factors will contain the deterioration of Korean Peninsula situation and will promote bilateral relations between China and ROK.
