In 2008，the resident population in Macao has reached 552000，and the total area of Macao is 29 square kilometers，with the overall density of population at about 18000 per square kilometer. There were about 27 million tourists visited Macao，61% of whom arrived by land，33% by sea，and 5% by air. Residents and tourists are the main users of transportation and other infrastructure in Macao. Land transportation being the main mode of internal and external travel for residents and visitors，it will be the emphasis of this chapter.
