The 18th Republic of Korea presidential elections will be held in South Korea on 19 December 2012. Park Geun-hye, after losing to become the nominee for the Grand National Party in the 17th presidential election five years ago, started working towards the election again, and assumed the chairman of Special Commission on the 18th Presidential Election of Grand National Party. Does the first female president will appear in South Korea? This has become a hot topic again. Women should work in the family in the traditional Korean thought. Although the South Korea feminist movement has make great progress in recent years and female economic participation rate has exceeded 50%, the proportion of female politicians still lag behind the world average level and female legislator rate land after 50th in the world. Until now female president haven't appeared. Han Myeong-sook, as the first female prime minister, seems to open a door to the core of political power for woman. It has been eye-catching that Kang Kun-sil and Choo Mi-ae run for the mayor of Seoul one after another. If Park Geun-hye would win the 18th presidential elections, it will be a prominent part of the Korean women's participation in politics.
