The Chinese oceanic administration has been stepping up actions against marine pollution in recent years with tougher policies than before. As a result，the marine environment has been slightly improved. Nonetheless，new problems such as a wave of new area development along the coastline in northern China and the emission of pollutants into the seas by a strip of chemical industry parks along the coastline in eastern China have emerged in addition to existing environmental problems that have yet to be solved，such as the multi-year Bohai Sea problem，the red tides and the aquaculture. Moreover，marine environment-relevant incidents led by Enteromorpha prolifera in Qingdao occurred in 2008. The marine environment protection task remains challenging.
