With the continuous development of the comprehensive national strength，China increasingly engages the world and undertakes more international responsibility. China’s aid program to Papua New Guinea（PNG）and other Pacific Island countries has grown rapidly in recent years. In the context of the rise of China，the growth of China’s aid to PNG has drawn extensive attention from the world. The motivation of China’s aid caused many suspicions and the aid model suffered lots of criticism. This paper attempts to make a comparation between the aid to PNG from China and Australia. Analyze the similarities and differences of these two kinds of aid，sketch out the basic characteristics of China’s aid，and then make a response to those suspicious and criticism. China’s aid program to PNG suggests a shift towards a more interests-based approach，which is consistent with China’s peaceful development strategy. China will pay more attention on the region’s stability and development when providing aid to PNG and other Pacific Island countries. Actually，China’s aid program to PNG is not only an alternative to western aid，these two kinds of aid are complementary and mutual promotion. In order to maximize the effectiveness of foreign aid，and maintain a long-term stability and sustainable development of the recipient countries，these two kinds of aid need to cooperate with each other.
