<<Carbon materials enjoy a wide range of applications in new energy fields. For example, they can be used as battery materials in lithium batteries, fuel cells, flow batteries, sodium batteries, supercapacitors and photovoltaic batteries. They are also the indispensable moderators, reflective and structural components in nuclear power, such as the heat pipes of supporting columns, fuel elements, core materials and electrodes. They play a key role in new energy vehicles. For instance, carbon fibers, the replacement of iron materials, can lighten the weight of the whole car by 40% and can be used as the raw materials of 3D printing to fabricate the car bodies so that one automobile is able to change several “dresses” in the future(i.e. one chassis can be equipped with various vehicle bodies). On-board energies, whether the current star of lithium batteries or the next generation of solid batteries, cannot advance without carbon materials. In addition,as electrical conductors, carbon materials possess the same extraordinary property as copper;as thermal conductive materials, they outperform all the other materials. Even in the treatment of haze and other pollution, carbon materials are the best absorption and filtration materials. Hence, they are undoubtedly the crucial materials in environmental protection, new energy utilization and conversion. In other words, the advancement of carbon materials has an important guiding and promoting influence on new energy industry.
Based on the structure and properties of carbon materials, this paper combined practical cases and discussed the multi-dependent and stimulating relationships between the carbon materials and new energy devices, pointing out that new energy industry cannot develop without carbon materials and that with the growth of new energy industry, the related carbon materials enjoy enhancement and improvement as well. We also proposed that the development of carbon materials should be given the top priority in order to boost the new energy industry.
