As the municipal project，the governments at all levels are carrying out the comprehensive renovation of the old residential areas，aiming at upgrading the urban environment and building up a healthy city. In order to evaluate the effectiveness of this project，the NBS Survey Office in Beijing and the Beijing Municipal Bureau of Statistics conducted an investigation，the result of which showing that more than a half of the old residential areas have been renovated and nearly 90% of the respondents are satisfied with the project in general，whereas there are still aspects to be improved with regard to designing，renovating process and maintenance.
