<<In the 12th election for governor of Okinawa held on November 16th,2014,the former mayor of Naha gained over 360 thousand votes and won over other three candidates by great margin. The result of the election reflects the public opinion,as a revenge of Okinawa people for the former Okinawa governor having broken his promise and allowed the relocation of the U.S. bases from Futenma to Henoko,as well as the demonstration of democratic spirit, with which the Okinawa people try to break away from the economic model dependent upon U.S. bases and demand the equal burden-sharing of the U.S. bases between Okinawa and mainland Japan. The election has profound impact on the development of Okinawa, the relations between Okinawa and mainland Japan and U.S.-Japanese alliance. Under the pressure of Okinawa people, the way that the Abe administration deals with the issue of U.S. bases serves as a test for Japanese central political system and Japanese-U.S alliance.
