There are many differences between new media and traditional media, some of them may be seen as "cultural" barriers. As the monopolist in mass communication area, traditional media form a closed system, which leads to a self-centered culture. To maintain its authority and position, traditional media focus on the integration of all kinds of social groups rather than the satisfaction of individuals. However, new media are an open, decentralized and fault-tolerant system, with the combination of different cultures. They pay more attention to the individuals' needs and depend more on the participation and sharing of users. The cultural barrier is a main obstacle in the digitalization of old media and media convergence, especially in the convergence of Internet and television.
