Although we know its aid program is growing，exactly just how much it gives，where，and in what form，has remained unclear. The Lowy Institute’s Mapping Chinese aid in the Pacific project sought to help rectify this. It is the first time this data has been systemically collected，verified，mapped，and analysed. It is therefore crucial to assess Chinese aid amounts based on executed projects rather than pledges and announcements.
