The rural legal aid system experienced a significant development in the past year. It has been improved in terms of the widely established legal aid system, the diverse providers of legal aid service and their cooperation, the steady financial support, the normalization of due process of legal aid, and the innovation of rural legal education. The further development of rural legal aid shall be contributed by a comprehensive institutionalization of basic level capacity building, quality evaluation, and criminal legal aid system. As a crucial approach of the innovation of rural social management, basic level legal aid could not only benefit the human rights protection of rural vulnerable groups, improve their access to justice, realize their legal empowerment and economic development, but also lead to the good governance and a sound institutional base for social reform.
