In 2012, the NPC, its Standing Committee and the State Council of China conducted their legislative work to meet the overall requirements of the consummation of the socialist legal system with Chinese characteristics and the practical need of economic and social development, with the purpose of serving the central tasks of the ruling Party and the state. As a result, a series of new laws and regulations relating to human rights were adopted, and a set of existing laws and regulations were amended, modified or nullified. While the legal protection of human rights was greatly enhanced, several problems still existed and need to be seriously regarded and solved.
