Trust is the lubricant for social solidarity and constructing a modern social trust system that compatible with the Chinese marketing economy is of great importance for maintaining social harmony. The Social Survey Center of the Public Opinion Research Laboratory in Shanghai Jiao Tong University conducted a telephone survey of residents’ social trust in 35 cities of China. From the perspective of occupation，rural migrant workers and teachers were the most trustworthy groups，while government officials and entrepreneurs were the least trustworthy groups；females placed more trust than males on high social status groups （e.g.，judges，polices，government officials）；in contrast，males placed more trust than females in lower social status groups （e.g.，rural migrant workers）. Among acquaintances，the rank of trustworthiness were family members，relatives，friends，classmates，colleagues，leaders，and neighbors；groups over 60 years old trusted relatives and neighbors the most，while groups under 20 trusted friends and classmates the most；people in the middle area of China placed more trust than other those from other areas in classmates，neighbors，and family. From the perspective of information sources，most people chose to trust media reports and official declaration. From the perspective of news media，the olds trusted television more than news APP，wechat，and discussion around.
