This paper，based on the report The Competitiveness of Cities issued by World Economic Forum，tried to explore the taxonomy of drivers of city. In this report，six global “megatrends” especially relevant to cities are identified. It examines the definition of cities competitiveness as the set of factors-policies，institutions，strategies and processes. The paper discussed a simple taxonomy of four drivers of city competitiveness，included institutions，policies and regulation of the business environment，“hard connectivity”，and “soft connectivity”. It summarized major path ways to promote the city competitiveness.
