The safety of NEV is crucial for its development. This paper introduces the characteristics and development trend of relevant standard，technical requirement，safety of battery，safety of charging，and consumer perception etc.. on the safety of NEVs. It puts forward that the safety standard for NEV is an important part of the establishment of standard system for NEVs. It will be further improved and developed in future. Now there is little difference between the after collision safety standards in home and abroad. China needs a new security concept to make higher level of security protection of high pressure system. The safety of battery is not only a technical problem；it also has influence on the technical route of the NEV development. The establishment of recommended standard can make further improvement on the technical requirements to the safety of battery，but the overall implementation of new standard is difficult. There is the gap between the consumer’s expectation on the safety of NEV and the real satisfaction.
