The study draws on a survey conducted on Chinese minors' internet use and social network in 10 provinces and cities. With a clear-cut definition of "online social networking" as the framework, it finds that Chinese minors have relatively specific spaces and scenarios for online social networking. These spaces and scenarios play a positive role in expanding their social relations network, preventing loneliness, and promoting interactions among themselves. The online social networking of minors demonstrates a number of characteristics: a higher penetration rate, sub-cultures and a deepening social intercourse. The study suggests that attempts should be made to increase the social awareness of minors' online social networking, to help the minors better use the internet for social networking, and to attach importance to the education of minors in online social networking.
