The purpose of Japan’s constitution promulgated in 1946 is to guard Japan’s democracy and peace in the post-war era. Japan’s Liberal Democratic Party （LDP） founded in 1955 added the article concerning constitutional amendment to its party constitution. According to the Article 96 of Japan’s constitution，the constitutional amendment requires the approval of over two-thirds in both houses of congress and over half of the people in the national voting. In the 24th election of Senate，LDP achieved the first requirement of constitutional amendment for the first time. The year 2016 may become a crucial time for the start of constitutional amendment. However，there has been controversy in terms of the content of the revision between LDP and the Komeito Party，and it is difficult for LDP to propose a detailed draft for constitutional amendment in a short period of time. To reduce the opposition，the Abe administration may keep Article 9 of the constitution，which is the prime target for the revision，unchanged，and ask for some additional terms in the article to meet the need of all the parties. Considering the difficulties in many aspects，it will take a long time for Abe to achieve the goal of revising the constitution.
