2017 will be another year of uncertainty for the world and Europe，including for Germany. Germany will not only hold federal elections on September 24^th；the country itself，the European Union and the international community continue to face many serious challenges at home，at the EU and the international level. At home，the integration of refugees into German society is the greatest challenge for the future，Germany’s anti-terrorism situation is still grim，and against this background the rise of right-wing populist forces has added a new variable to the German political environment. At the EU level，it is uncertain whether the Netherlands and France will cease to be “Black Swans”. Although in the elections in the Netherlands the mainstream parties have，after going through a difficult moment，eventually prevailed，the right-wing populist forces have not disappeared. At the commencement of the Brexit process，the EU needs to determine the future direction of its development. Although the concept of a “multi-speed Europe” seems to be gaining acceptance with a majority of member states，its implementation poses many problems and challenges. At the international level，with Donald Trump assuming the United States presidency and initiating a policy of isolationism，the foundation of the transatlantic relationship-its values-is threatened. Germany needs to look for new partners in the process of globalization，and in order to assume responsibility for the security of Europe and the whole world，it must improve its own military strength and invigorate the EU Common Foreign and Security Policy.
